Application & Usage
Before applying Katepal K-36 Sealing Compound, the product should be stored at room temperature for at least 24 hours to ensure the best working consistency. Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to remove loose material, dirt, grease, or debris to ensure proper adhesion.
For porous or dusty surfaces, it is recommended to first apply Katepal K-80 bitumen solution as a primer to improve bonding performance.
The compound should be applied in a layer approximately 1mm thick, typically using a 4 × 4 mm notched spreader held at a 45° angle. Once applied, the surfaces should be carefully pressed together to remove any trapped air pockets. Pressure should continue to be applied until the sealant begins to exude slightly from the seam, ensuring a strong bond. Any excess material can then be smoothed out using a spatula.
Katepal K-36 can also be applied to slightly damp surfaces, which adds extra flexibility when working in challenging site conditions.
Working Conditions & Coverage
The recommended working temperature for gluing is between +5°C and +50°C. Under normal conditions, the approximate consumption rate is 1 litre per square metre when used for bonding.
After application, the bonded roofing material should not be covered until the adhesive has fully hardened, allowing it to achieve maximum strength and durability.
Tools and stains can be cleaned mechanically or with white spirit or mineral turpentine. When used indoors, the product must be allowed to fully dry and ventilate until the solvent has completely evaporated before the area is put back into use.
