Key Information
The Marley Modern Interlocking Concrete Roof Tile is a popular choice for new builds, home extensions and roof renovations across the UK. With its traditional flat profile and clean, slate-like appearance, this large-format concrete roof tile creates a smart, understated finish that suits both contemporary and traditional properties.
Designed as a single-lap interlocking roof tile, the Marley Modern combines a distinctive flat appearance with practical coverage. Selected smooth-finish installations can accommodate roof pitches as low as 17.5° at 100mm headlap, making it an option worth considering for suitable lower-pitched roofs, subject to the full Marley fixing and exposure specification.
The Marley Modern range is available on this page in four colour options. Choose the shade from the drop-down menu to match the character of your roof, brickwork and surrounding buildings:
Colour and surface texture can look different in changing daylight. For roof extensions or partial replacements, it is worth checking a sample against the existing covering before ordering, as even similar shades may not be an exact match.
Important: The 9.9 tiles per m² covering figure is based on 75mm headlap, whereas the quoted minimum roof pitches use 100mm headlap. Do not use the 75mm-headlap coverage figure to calculate a minimum-pitch roof without checking the required gauge and coverage. Roof exposure, location and fixing requirements must also be considered.
The Marley Modern has a distinctive flat, slate-inspired profile without requiring natural slate. Its larger concrete format makes it a practical option for a broad range of pitched-roof designs, while the interlocking construction helps create a consistent laying pattern when installed to the manufacturer's specification.
There is also flexibility in appearance: Smooth Grey creates a neat, understated finish, Antique Brown (Granular) brings additional surface texture, Anthracite introduces deeper contrast and Old English Dark Red offers a more traditional roof colour. Whether you are reroofing a property or choosing materials for a new extension, the finish can be coordinated with roofline details, fascias and surrounding masonry.
Begin by measuring the area of each roof slope, taking account of dormers, valleys, hips and any changes in pitch. Confirm the required headlap and batten gauge before calculating how many Marley Modern tiles to order. At 75mm headlap, the stated covering capacity is approximately 9.9 tiles per m², but the number needed will change if a greater headlap is required.
Allow additional tiles for cuts, fitting details and reasonable site wastage. You will also need compatible ridge tiles and roof fittings, a suitable roofing underlay or membrane and the mechanical fixings specified for your project.

Marley Modern concrete roof tiles should be fitted as part of a complete roofing system using suitable battens, underlay, fixings and compatible ridge and verge details. The correct arrangement depends on roof pitch, height, wind exposure and the specific tile finish.
In particular, the 17.5° minimum pitch applies to smooth-finish tiles with 100mm headlap, while granular-finish tiles require a minimum pitch of 25° at 100mm headlap, based on the supplied specification. The roof designer or installer should check the current Marley fixing instructions and site conditions before proceeding. Interlocking tiles still need the appropriate mechanical restraint; the interlock does not replace fixings.
They are manufactured from concrete and have a flat, single-lap interlocking profile designed to create a slate-like roof appearance.
The options on this product are Smooth Grey, Antique Brown (Granular), Anthracite and Old English Dark Red. Select your preferred colour from the drop-down menu.
Based on the supplied specifications, smooth-finish tiles can be used from 17.5° with 100mm headlap, while granular-finish tiles require at least 25° with 100mm headlap. Final suitability depends on the roof specification and exposure conditions.
The stated covering capacity is 9.9 tiles per m² at 75mm headlap. If your roof requires 100mm headlap or another gauge, use the appropriate manufacturer coverage figure instead.
Each tile has a nominal size of 420 x 330mm. The effective area covered after laying is smaller because adjacent tiles overlap.
Yes, they can be considered for new builds, extensions and roof refurbishment projects where the pitch, fixing specification and roof structure are suitable. Check colour compatibility if connecting a new roof to an existing covering.
